Lynden Rodeo Queen

Hilary Zender of Bellingham was crowned the first Miss Lynden Rodeo Queen at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden on January 24, 2009. The pageant included a horsemanship competition, in which participants demonstrated their riding skills in front of a panel of judges. "This is a privilege," Zender said. "Rodeo is definitely a passion of mine." Organizers of the Lynden Rodeo hope to make the pageant an annual event.

Cross Country Athletes of the Year

Sehome's Annie Moore, left, and Clinton Overman have been named the All-County Cross Country athletes of the year for 2008. Under the leadership of Moore and Overman, both the girls and boys teams at Sehome High School won the 2008 cross country 2A state championships. As individuals, Moore finished ninth and Overman finished second.
